The return of Maurice Fulton

Data on Dub Press Release:
Date:  29.03.10

Sorry Grandma! presents…

The return of Maurice Fulton

Maurice Fulton was born under a crossfire hurricane. (Oh, no he wasn’t.) That was Mick Jagger wasn’t it?) Whatever. Anyway, Maurice Fulton was born somewhere, probably Baltimore, but we’d need to carbon-date him to be sure. Early in his life, Maurice realised he wanted to be a marine biologist. He had the snorkel. He had the flippers. He had some pictures of cute dolphins. (Aww, bless.) Then it all went wrong. He started buying records, thinking they were sub-aquatic aids and before he realised, he was DJing in nightclubs (he was looking for porpoises and took the wrong turning at the bathroom). Since becoming an internationally renowned DJ he has lived everywhere from New York to Australia, London to Sheffield. He presently lives in a croft on the Shetland Isles, where he weaves wool and communes with nature. We like his wool. But not as much as his disco.
Maurice was legendary for his mental sets at Honkytonks when he lived in Melbourne, many times kicking off the headlining visitors to splash out his mindbending and truly inspired take on rocking the dancefloor.

We are truly excited to welcome Maurice to Sorry Grandma!

Sorry Grandma!

Maurice Fulton BIO: Maurice Fulton is one of electronic music’s true originals. An American ex-pat who now makes his beats in Sheffield UK, he has a name that steadily recurs to those in the dance scene know. He is a DJ and producer with a reputation for surprising and delighting his listeners with music that is unexpected but always genuinely good.  Fulton has been producing cutting edge electronic music since the early 90’s and is the darling of both the underground and leftfield scenes. He goes by his many monikers, including Ladyvipb, Eddie and the Egg and Syclops and has produced albums for Kathy Diamond and his wife, Mu as well as remixes for Annie, Hot Chip, Chicken Lips, !!! and The Rapture to name a few.  Through the years this prodigious producer has carved out his own unique sound in the leftfield scene. His recording career is expansive and impressive with releases on some of dance music’s most important labels such as Warp, Sonar Kollektiv, Output, Tirk and most recently DFA.  Fulton’s versatility, style, and skills on the turntables are virtually unmatched. His sincerity and flair for combining a selection of garage, classics and contemporary underground dance music is second to none.

Redshape live [Present /Delsin, Germany]

Stable, Haul Music and Inthemix.com.au presents…

Redshape live [Present /Delsin, Germany]

Electronic music’s most enigmatic artist.

Mystery, theatre, intensity, enigma. Detroit electronic dogma beneath a red mask from Berlin. Underground extravagance or professional scene player? One thing is certain: a true respect for the faceless history of Techno music is played out in dramatic phantom style. Redshape’s live shows are truly a unique spectacle to behold.

Journalist Pete Chambers once said about Redshape that “The future of the past never sounded more contemporary.” This couldn’t be more true of such a unique entity on the global dance music scene. A live electronic performer playing seriously expressive music behind an expressionless red mask – and every weekend across the planet. Digging deep into the roots of American house and techno music yet drawing on all the most contemporary techniques of European minimal, dubstep and beyond. The red mask becomes a time machine for the dancefloor, a vision of what’s about to come. To Redshape, there is “a lot of ‘true’ music out there and the ‘golden age’ doesn’t need to be recalled, it’s still here—just looking different than before.”

Intentional? Accidental? Either way, this artist has been on the tips of every DJ and producer’s tongue since his his first ep “Shapedworld” was released in 2006 on Dutch label Delsin – the same label that released “The Dance Paradox” late last year. With numerous releases and remixes on heavyweight labels such as R&S and Music Man, Redshape has already left a serious impression within discerning circles and continues to attract fans with each show and each release.

His live performances are more of the same. Intense. Never the same. It is like industrial jazz continually improvised and hell bent for the dancefloor. Gritty grooves, ethereal synthesized chords, a keen sense of how to move his audience.

Joined by premiere live act Christian Vance (Perspectiv, Haul Music) and a showcase of perfection from Dave Pham, Craig McWhinney, Matt Radovich, Mike Callander, Mike Buhl, Ace Stojevski and Caine Sinclair.

With experiments in sound by Cloud Speaker Live, JPS, Nam, Spherix, Unfetted, Josh Rankin and Richard Cambell in the Front room.

Join us for what will be one of this year’s highlights on the electronic music roster as we present:  Redshape.  The Dance Paradox.

REDSHAPE BIO: In early 2006 techno’s own masked man Redshape appeared first time on infamous Dutch imprint Delsin records. This initial release “Shapedworld EP” kicked him into the international techno scene, getting support from all major DJ from day one. Redshape soon developed his own individual view on modern dance music and set to leave a mark in techno.

Since coming to prominence over the last few years, very few producers (with the exception of Carl Craig and a few others) have come close to matching his technofied mission, meaning each and every Redshape 12″ is held in high regard by the more discerning techno heads. His music brought him into the yearly toplists of German’s groove & De-bug aswell as a lot of other magazines.

Trying to describe his sound is kind of a hard task, sitting somewhere between everything in dance music and Redshape’s own imagination you get a direct extract – not minimal, not maximal and always historical respecting the vibe of detroit.  Resident Advisor’s Pete Chambers once said “The future of the past never sounded more contemporary.” which perfectly surrounds redshapes musical vision.

Repeating is definitaly a thing Redshape works hard to prevent, so his live shows, which brought him to nearly every known European club, morph and develop everytime to never play the same show a second time.  As a DJ Redshape is still very inspired by the good old school of mixing and trying to make tracks speak to tracks, making music out of music.

Redshapes music and remixes have been released on labels like Styrax Leaves, Delsin, Music Man, R&S etc. not forgetting his own imprint “Present Recordings”. Working together with Delsin Records he will releasehis debut “The Dance Paradox” in October 2009 setting things for a bright 2010 which will see a brand new Live (Tour) show as well as scheduled releases for his labels.
